February 28th is the 10th anniversary of the 6.8 Nisqually earthquake! Two representatives of the City of Seattle Office of Emergency Planning: Erika Lund, Recovery and Mitigation Coordinator, and JoAnn Jordan, Public Education Coordinator meet with us. JoAnn commended SHERN for building relationships and collaborating in advance of a disaster. She said it was “huge.” They talked about training and later provided a list of contacts. Other meeting topics included a draft list of possible funders, fiscal agent, phone tree, and draft list of emergency supplies for the cache. Julie Creahan, Kris Henderson, Laura Phillips and Scott Roley are work on this subcommittee.

We discussed the Heritage Preservation National Leadership Institute in Denver on July 20, 2011.  We can send two members. Gary will go, but no one else will be able to attend. We continued our discussions on the fiscal sponsor/incorporation discussion.  Kris Henderson and Loretta Greene have provided leadership in exploring these issues. A subcommittee is continuing to work on a proposal for a SHERN supply cache. Gary will contact BELFOR to see if SHERN can have Red Alert status or if we first need a more formal 501(c) (3) type organization.

Gary gave an update on the Alliance for Response National Leadership Institute July 20, 2011 in Denver. We talked about some future meeting topics. We discussed future meeting topics and decided to schedule the October 28th meeting at University of Washington Emergency Operations Center so members can see how an EOC operates. Other suggestions for future meetings included a salvage workshop, a site visit to the local Belfor office, and a meeting with the Seattle Fire Department.

We decided to explore Allied Arts as a fiscal sponsor (Loretta) and to table SHERN signing a Belfor Red Alert agreement as SHERN has no legal standing.  Some SHERN members already have or are exploring red alert or similar agreements. The supply cache subcommittee met again before the Steering Committee meeting. They are pricing supplies and identifying sources.

Kris reviewed two recent water leaks at the King County Law Library.
